The Hāwea Domain Location
The Hāwea Domain supports diverse recreational and community uses, including walking, dog exercising, and hosting large events such as the Hāwea Picnic Race Day and the Cavalcade, which align with its rural character. The site also features spaces leased to the Hāwea Wanaka Pony Club for training and competitions, a community food forest, and approximately 22 hectares of land used for grazing and baleage.
Governed by the Hāwea Domain Board since 2018, the Domain is managed in collaboration with the Queenstown Lakes District Council to facilitate community aspirations. It also includes unique features such as a water race managed by the Hāwea Irrigation Company, mature trees, and access to the Hāwea School Track, a safe off-road route popular with walkers, cyclists, and students.
